ISYS :: Integrated SYStem
|
ISYS is a dynamic, flexible open source platform for the integration of
bioinformatics software tools and databases.
|
| ABSTRACT |
 |
|
ISYS offers a component-based architecture that enables scientists to
"plug and play" among tools of interest. These tools may be separately
developed and independently evolving, and may include a group's own
databases and analytical programs as well as those available publicly
or for a fee. In addition, ISYS now allows web-based resources to be
integrated with programs running on the scientist's desktop.
ISYS's DynamicDiscovery technology creates an exploratory environment
in which scientists can navigate freely among registered components.
DynamicDiscovery helps to guide the user by suggesting appropriate
registered components to process selected data objects. In addition,
ISYS supports visual synchronization among components, which helps each
one to complement the others.
ISYS is written in Java for platform independence and has been tested on
Linux, Solaris, Mac OSX and Windows. It should be usable on any platform
for which a Java VM version 1.4 or higher has been written.
ISYS is highly customizable for the needs of individual scientists and
organizations. NCGR is available to help you adapt ISYS for your needs.

|
The ISYS Platform code has been released under an Open Source license and
is available for download from SourceForge.
This package includes the ISYS SDK with Javadocs for the complete ISYS Application
Programming Interface (API) and the comprehensive ISYS Development Manual.
In addition, builds of ISYS including sets of components that are useful for
certain application areas are available:
Any of these distributions may be customized by altering the set of component
plugins included in its Components folder.

| COMPONENTS |
 |
|
The ISYS platform has been used for the de novo development and wrapping of a diverse set of components. An installation of ISYS can have components added or removed as simply as adding or removing a folder from its Components directory. The set of components currently available for ISYS includes:
