GENOTYPING

Genotyping is the process of determining the genes (genotype) of an individual by examining its DNA sequence with the use of biological assays. Single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) and structural variants are the basis of genetic variation in the genotypes of individuals and populations.  NCGR provides Illumina-based genotyping assays for human, plants and animals for whole genome individual and population studies. Currently, NCGR has BeadXpress and iScan instruments with full automation for high throughput production runs of genotyping arrays using GoldenGate and Infinium assays.

Genotyping is a gold standard for whole genome association studies and validation of SNPs. NCGR generates high quality sequencing data using Illumina Genome Analyzers and processes data using the award winning pipeline software Alpheus.  SNP calling by Alpheus is validated using genotyping to adjust informatics filtering conditions.
